Dr. Laura McMullin

Dr. Laura McMullin is a native of Sydney, Nova Scotia and is very pleased to be the newest member of the West Halifax Optometry team, beginning practice in January 2014.

Laura graduated with an honours Doctor of Optometry from the University of Waterloo in 2010 after completing a four month ocular disease externship with Parkland Hospital in Dallas, TX. She truly valued the rotation in a hospital setting and the extensive exposure and experience with diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma treatment, macular degeneration and the numerous ocular complications to poor general health.

Laura has a keen interest in pre/post operative laser surgery care, dry eye therapy and children's vision. She has attended several seminars on multifocal (progressive) contact lens fittings and enjoys introducing them to new patients looking to be glasses free at times!

Laura is a member of the Canadian and Nova Scotia Association of Optometrists. She is a past council member of the Nova Scotia Association of Optometrists and currently co-chairs both the Public Education and Charitable committees as well has served on both the Children’s Vision and Occupational Vision committees.

In her spare time Laura enjoys yoga, traveling, being on the water and the humbling experience of eye care mission and charity work. She has worked with both ICARE International and Canadian Vision Care travelling to Mexico and Jamaica to provide free eye care and lenses to those without healthcare privileges. Laura is passionate about her efforts in this capacity. Locally she works with Shelter NS, Salvation Army, The Hearing and Speech Foundation and many other charitable endeavours on a casual basis.

Dr. McMullin is delighted to be with the West Halifax Optometry group and looks forward to building some great patient relationships in the new practice.
